Rokukan Tai Chi - Movement #12

.

..

THE TWELFTH MOVEMENT
Closing

.

Preliminary Considerations

1. CLOSING - This is the final equilibration and the end of the Rokukan Short Form.

There are no more opponents.

2. This movement shifts from a front stance to a "natural" stance, where there is even weight distribution on both feet.

.

.

CLOSING

(Turning right to face the North).

.

.

.

.

The disciple regains his or her composure and balance, and resumes the task of crossing the stream.

.

.

The disciple shifts the body weight back to a balance
and then steps forward onto the far bank.
The weight shifts back to an even distribution on #6 and #5.

(Turn 90º to the right)
(Then step forward)

.

The disciple equilibrates and continues his or her journey

.

1. The left foot turns 90º to the right and the back of the right sword-hand swings down and to the right.

2.The whole body turns to face North as the two sword-hands swing up and around in a circle (in the opposite direction from the Opening).

3. As the hands reach 12:00 on the clock, they cross over at the wrists into two fists in front of the face, and then descend to a "ready" position in front of the hips.

.

.The disciple, having successfully defended himself or herself from five hoodlums while simply crossing a stream on six stepping stones, may now step forward onto the far bank and continue his or her journey in peace.

.

Common Mistakes

1. Not turning the left foot (to the right) as the first motion.

2. Not sweeping the right hand backward as the second motion.

3. Confusing the direction in which the hands make the final circle.

It's the opposite direction from the Opening.

4. Failure to keep practicing on a regular basis.

.

You may wish to tell your patients that :

A) They have now learned the entire Rokukan Short Form.
